Shannon Grinnell is an award-winning Filmmaker and experienced TV Producer who has produced television commercials, nationally broadcast TV shows and Independent films in Toronto and Los Angeles.
She started the Speaking of Crypto podcast because she’s a huge believer in Bitcoin, crypto and blockchain technology and her goal is to inform and inspire others looking to understand and benefit from the New Internet.
Shannon is a former competitive beach volleyball athlete who trained for 2 months in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and competed in national qualifier and provincial tournaments as well with the CBVA in California. She ran a full length 26 mile/42.2 km marathon in 2014.
With a background in music, film and TV, after attending Humber College’s Jazz Music Program as a composer/vocalist, she wrote and recorded a 3-act, musical including 12 original songs, one produced and recorded at a 24 track professional recording studio.
She also attended Ryerson’s Film Production program and Shannon has written a feature length screenplay, and produced and directed an award-winning short film that was screened on national television and at film festivals internationally.
As a life-long learner and lover of adventure, Shannon has travelled to 15 different countries across four continents including Uganda, Denmark, The Netherlands, London, France, Italy, Switzerland.
Film and TV Background
During her five years as Producer at MuchMusic/MuchMoreMusic (CTV) she produced shows such as Listed, Back In, The Loop (MMM version of MuchNews) and edits for flagship live show Much On Demand (MOD). She was also a part of the highly acclaimed annual live music video award show the station hosts every year – the MMVAs (MuchMusic Video Awards).
Before Much, she worked at Rogers Productions, an in-house production company at Rogers corporate office where she produced television commercials for weekly Pay PerView, monthly Rogers On Demand, and various other Rogers Digital Cable andRogers AT&T Wireless clients.
During her three years in Los Angeles, she developed and produced news, entertainment, fitness, and restaurant review segments for a one hour magazine style show “South Bay Exclusive” for Adelphia Cable. Shannon also conceptualized, wrote and produced a promotional PSA for the non-profit organization Dig for Kids, led by Olympic Beach Volleyball Champion 2000,Eric Fonoimoana. This PSA was broadcast to 1.2 million homes in the Los Angeles County area.
She was the sole recipient of the annual York University MFA Program TalentScholarship, in 1998, recipient of the Brussels Short Film Festival ScreenwritingAward for short film “Cassie’s Hunger” in 1996, and an Ontario Art’s Council grantrecipient for the short film “One String, Two String”.
Shannon has also Production Managed shoots in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York City and Montreal for “Exposure: Environmental Links to Breast Cancer” a one-hour television special hosted by breast cancer survivor, actress and activist Olivia Newton John.
